What is Image Analysis?
An image is a representation of an object. As you read this, an image of this page is formed upon your retina. Your eye, and other components of the visual system, form a biological device for creating and capturing images.
Although the visual system is superbly adapted to making qualitative judgments about image features, it is not very well suited to making quantitative judgments. For example, your visual system may tell you that an object in your field of view is very big, or that it is very bright, but it can’t tell you exactly how big or bright it is. In order to quantify image features, a biological imaging system requires assistance from image analysis tools. Image analysis is a means of obtaining quantitative information (i.e., numerical data) from an image.
What is an Image Analysis System?
An image analysis system is a tool for gathering data from an image. Our MCID™ (MicroComputer Imaging Device) is a software tool to help users acquire and extract information from images.
